Literacy
Today is the last day of our look at Community Helpers, so we found a video that
includes many different helpers. Maybe one day when you’re all grown up, you may
choose to be a Community Helper!
Using the worksheet below, see if you can fill in the missing word in each sentence.
You can do this orally with a family member. You could then come up with your own
sentences, using other community helpers you may have seen or heard in the video.
Math
Today you are going to use your imagination and what you know about patterning to
create a necklace. Use items you can find around your house. Suggestions are: fruit
loops, cheerios, buttons, beads or pasta. You can also make a bracelet using paper
and stickers. You will also need some yarn or string. If you are using stickers, you
will need to cut out a piece of paper approximately 2cm wide and long enough to go
around your wrist and then when it’s all done, you can tape/glue the ends together.
Choose whatever type of pattern you want based on the number of different items
you want to use. For example-If you are using fruit loops and want to only use fruit
loops, you can choose two or three different colours and make a pattern or if you
are using beads and want to only use beads, you can choose two, three, or four
different coloured beads and make a AB, ABC or ABCD pattern. You may want to use
one colour of fruit loops and plain cheerios and you can make a simple A B pattern.
The possibilities are endless. Have fun.
Extension or Challenge: You have decided to make a bracelet using three different
colours of beads. The first bead is red, the second is green and the third is blue. If
this pattern repeats, what colour is the 7th bead, the 10th bead and the 13th bead?
You see flowers in your garden. The first flower is yellow, the second flower is pink,
the third flower is purple and the fourth flower is white. If this pattern repeats,
what colour is the 5th flower, the 8th flower, or the 11th flower?
Forgot the matching ... A little unfocused today. Naomie’s literacy .
