Totally Terrific Tuesday Literacy: Get ready for a great story! You are going to be playing “There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Chick” read aloud video on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4P8ifk66QyM . Before pressing play, look at the story cover… What do you think is going to happen? Once you have listened to the story, go over all of the things that the old lady swallowed (in order if possible). Students can pick 4 of those words to try spelling aloud or spell by writing. Remember to take your time sounding out the words. Bonus Activity: Reflect on the “There Was an Old Lady…” stories. At the end of each story, the old lady creates something spectacular! What is something that the old lady could create? What would she have to swallow in order to create it?
Math:
Let’s get crackin’! With Easter approaching, what better time than now to decorate Easter eggs! You can take real eggs from the fridge or create your own eggs on a sheet of paper for this activity. If you plan on using real eggs, make sure to poke a hole at the top and bottom of the egg in order to blow the yolk and egg white out. You can decorate your eggs with markers, paints, chalk, or whatever is available to you. After you have decorated your eggs (preferably 4 or more), follow the instructions below. How many Easter eggs have purple on them? Practice writing that number 5 times. How many Easter eggs have yellow on them? Practice writing that number 7 times. How many Easter eggs have stripes on them? Practice writing that number 3 times. How many Easter eggs have pictures on them (e.g. hearts, smiley face, flowers, etc.)? Practice writing that number 10 times. Bonus Activity: How can we practice adding using eggs? Create 2 groups of eggs and say the number of eggs in each group followed by the total number of eggs (e.g. 3+2=5).
