Tremendous Tuesday!
Literacy:
Get ready for a fabulous story that will be SUNG to you! The story is called “Giraffes Can’t Dance” and you can view it by clicking this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zzb5Acl-n70 .
There are some things that we just can’t do YET… Something Gerald couldn’t do at the beginning of the story was dance. Luckily, he came across a cricket that helped him realize that he could dance but he just needed to get in the groove to music that resonated with him. What are some things that you can’t do YET? Brainstorm a list of at least 5 things and choose one of those things to draw. Remember, it should be something that you can’t do now but will eventually be able to do with practice and/or with age. On your paper include this sentence: “Something I can’t do yet is ______________.” Parents can use a highlighter to write the sentence and students can trace over the sentence if needed.
If you would like to expand on this activity…. Students can also try to come up with things that they think their parents can’t do YET and draw a picture. This could be funny for some….
Math:
What are some things that you do every day?... Do you brush your teeth? Do you eat breakfast? Do you take a bath? Do you give hugs?
Probability tells us how likely it is that something will happen.
Parents- Create a chart with 3 columns: ‘Always’, ‘Sometimes’, ‘Never’. At the top of the page put the title: “Things We See Or Do In Kindergarten”. Start a discussion about the things that students see or do at school as well as the things that students would not see or do at school. Here are some examples:
Always- learn, eat lunch, play Sometimes- go to the library, have an indoor recess, celebrate a birthday Never- ride bikes in the classroom, paint the walls, swim in the classroom
Students can come up with as many as they can! Students are encouraged to try to at least come up with two in each column.
If you would like to expand on this activity.… Students can do the same thing again but instead of things that they may see and do at school, they can do things that they may see and do at home/ at their grandparents’ house/ at camp/ at the beach/ on a farm, etc.
Giulia enjoyed the chart and drawing her choice from her list!
Naomie can’t do ballet but would like to learn 🎀 Eating lunch and working hard 😊.
