Literacy:
Watch out for the hot lava!... Follow the link to see what our friend Harry keeps getting into: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue3uWYV2vqw&feature=youtu.be
Now you get to create your own lava! First, students will make a list of the ingredients they will need. JK parents can write out the words with a highlighter and JK students can trace the words. Here is what you'll need:
- A water bottle or a glass (tall skinny ones are ideal)
- Oil (vegetable/castor oil are best)
- Food colouring
- Baking soda
- Vinegar
Instructions on how to make your own lava lamp:
1. Add the baking soda. Start by getting an empty bottle or a tall glass.
2. Add the oil. In this step, you will be filling two thirds of your tall container with oil.
3. Mix the vinegar and the food colouring.
4. Let the magic begin! You can use a flashlight to add light to it.
Enjoy! :)
Math:
Get ready for a fun math challenge! Read the math problem below:
There are 8 wheels in the garage. What could be in there?
There are so many possibilities! Let's think what has wheels... A car, a tricycle, roller blades, a scooter... What else?! You are going to come up with as many combinations as you can to answer the math problem above. This will require your counting and adding skills. Are you up for the challenge? You can even look in your own garage to help you with this task.
Your ideas can be recorded on post it notes like the picture below or you can draw pictures/ write words of your item combinations on a sheet of paper. We look forward to seeing how many answers each student can come up with!
