With Mother's Day approaching we are thinking of all the really special women in our lives. You probably have a woman in your life that you really love, your Mom, or grandmother, an Aunt, Sister, Step Mom or a really good friend. This is a scavenger hunt that relates to this special lady. See how many things you can find.

1. A picture of this special person

2. An item that is your person's favourite colour

3. Your person's favourite food

4. Your person's favourite thing to wear

5. Something your person has had for a very long time

6. The newest thing your person has bought

Math - 10 and some More "Flash"

Have your child look at the following images for 3-5 seconds each (some students may need more time, or a second look. The intention is for them to figure out how many dots are in the image but not necessarily count each dot.)

Ask them "How many dots did you see?"

Once your child has thought about it and given a number ask "How did you figure that out?"

Students will have various ways of understanding and figuring it out. Some will know that the full ten frame is always 10 dots and won't need to count, they might say "I saw 10 then 3, that's 13." Or "I saw 5, 5, and 3, thats 10, 11, 12, 13, I know it's 13."

Optional Extension:

Draw or create a 10 frame and have your child explore numbers using the 10 frame and their choice of "counters".

Catholic Education Week - Hope for the World

“The world” can mean both the earth, as our common home, as well as our global community.

Watch the Following Read-aloud

Optional discussion

Sometimes when we face disappointment, sadness, or loss, it is hope that strengthens us to see that joy will come again.

How many times did Facile try to grow the mango tree?

How does Facile’s love for his sister give him hope?

If you planted a seed of hope, what would the plant look like?
