Magnificent Mammal Monday
Literacy:
Imagine your favourite animal! Your task is to try your best to draw your animal then colour it. Parents, showing a picture of the animal for a guideline may be helpful! Once you are done your drawing, you are going to label it. See if you can label five parts of your animal such as the ears, nose, eyes, mouth, claws, tail or fins. You can copy the words or sound them out with your family members: what letter do you hear in the beginning, middle and end? Example below.
Math:
You are going to explore the different sizes of animals. Grab 3-5 animal figures you have at home (you can use any handheld toy if you don’t have animals). Place them on a piece of paper in front of a well lit area, have the animals on the edge of the paper so you can see their shadows. Trace around the shadows as carefully as you can. Then you can discuss words for the sizes of shadows: big, small, tall, short, long and put them in order from smallest to largest. Example of tracing below.
