Creepy Crawlers
With the warm and wet weather of spring, have you noticed that many insects are beginning to come out? Have you seen any lady bugs, spiders, bumble bees or other creepy crawlers? If not, keep your eyes out!
Literacy
Before you start, listen to this story to give you some ideas about different types of insects. Just click on the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ptABiRy_Es
Think of your favourite type of insect. Now try your best to draw that insect on a piece of paper, remember it is not going to look exactly like the real one, just do your best! You can either simply draw it or add colour to it. Once you are done, see if you can do this writing:
JK – Write the name of your insect somewhere on your piece of paper. Parents, you have heard it before, but you can write it and have them copy it or write it with marker/highlighter and have them trace it.
SK – Write the name of the insect on the paper and then write a simple sentence explaining why you like this insect. Here is a sentence starter to help, “It is ____.”
Math
Do you know what a tally chart is? It is a chart that uses tally marks (lines) to keep track of how many of something you have.
Today you are going to make a tally chart to see how many insects are in this picture. You can print the provided tally chart out to fill in, or you can draw one at home. Then count each type of insect in the second picture and record it in your tally chart. See the example in the chart. Remember, it is always good to double check your counting!
Catholic Education Reflection:
God is always with us, He is with us when we go through good and challenging times. He wants us to believe in ourselves and recognize that we can make a difference. We can do this by doing things like being kind, respectful or helping take care of someone or something. Can you think of one small thing you can do to provide hope or make a difference in someone's life?
