Get Outside, Stay Outside - Fire Safety Lesson #2

A home fire drill is a time for a family to practise their fire escape plan. This is a plan to get out of your home quickly in case there is a fire. Every room should have 2 WAYS OUT, 1 way is a door and 1 could be another door or a window.

1) Travel around to each room of your home with your child. Ask them/talk with them about 2 ways out of each room.

2) Practise leaving your home and having everyone meet at a safe spot away from your house. During the practise, ensure everyone is quiet and walking, explain that no toys should come along, grab your pet if they are near to you only, remind your child they should never hide,

3) Over a period of a week or two, continue to practise leaving your home randomly while children are in different rooms, both with and without you in the room to build their confidence and security in doing so if an emergency should arise.
