We learned about the fruits (have seeds in them like apples, avocados, peppers, cucumbers, beans, oranges, berries) and vegetables (like carrots, celery, asparagus) food group. The next group we learned about was the protein food group that included things like nuts, seeds, eggs, yogurt, cheese, milk, chicken, fish, shrimp, peanut butter, and beans. The last food group we are going to learn about is the grains group which has many things in it like crackers, cereal, bread, bagels, rice, pasta, pizza crust, granola bars, muffins, naan bread, taco shells, and popcorn.
This week, I would like you to ask your child to find and cut out 2 fruits, 2 vegetables, 3 different proteins, and 4 different grains. They can find them in grocery flyers you might have at home or draw pictures of ones you have in your fridge or cupboards. Glue or draw them on paper, have your child tell you the name of the item and print the word by the corresponding picture.
